Nog even ter aanvulling. Je doorloopt je combat phase áltijd, ongeacht of je aanvalt of niet. Het zelfde als dat je je main phases altijd doorloopt, of je nu iets speelt of niet.
(Uitzondering hierop zijn natuurlijk effecten waardoor je je combat phase moet skippen)

Jazeker, waarom zou hij geen counter krijgen? Er staat immers niet dat een creature aan moet vallen.
Dus als je combat phase begint en je hebt een beestje met power 4 of meer, dan komt er een +1/+1 counter op dit insect.
Daarna pas ga je attackers declaren. Als je je tor aan laat vallen dan heeft hij die +1/+1 counter al.

krijgt Nessian ook +1/+1 als je wel een 4/4 hebt maar niet aanvalt ?

If you don’t control a creature with power 4 or greater as your combat phase begins, Nessian Hornbeetle’s ability doesn’t trigger. If you don’t control one as the ability resolves, it has no effect. It doesn’t have to be the same creature at both times, however.

Nessian Hornbeetle’s ability only gives it one +1/+1 counter, no matter how many creatures with power 4 or greater you control beyond the first.
